Title: Certified Nursing Assistant

Unit: Med/Surg

Shift: Per Diem - Mixed Shifts

Summary: The nursing assistant is in a staff position within the Patient Care Services Department.  The Nursing Assistant works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.  S/he is directly responsible to the Nurse Director and/or designee of the patient care unit to which he/she is assigned.

Qualifications: Successful completion of certified Nursing Assistant program; or 1 year completion of basic med/surgical nursing education; or completion of medical assistant program with a minimum of 1 year experience. Recent sub-acute or acute care nursing assistant experience preferred. Basic Life Support Certification. CPI Certification must be obtained if CNA will be working as a patient observer. High School Diploma/GED. Must possess the following skills:  reading, writing and simple mathematical calculations. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups. Integrity and flexibility. Ability to communicate effectively verbally, if necessary. Manual dexterity required to perform tests and to complete treatments. Ability to understand and follow through on instructions OR equivalent combination of the above
