Outpatient occupational therapy required. Outpatient hand injury experience preferred.
 

  1. Position Summary:

 

Evaluates and treats patients using manual techniques, purposeful activities and physical agent modalities.  Provides clinical supervision to assistants, aides and students. Participates in departmental activities to assure smooth operations and facilitate program enhancement.

 

  1. Major Responsibilities:

 

Administers therapy evaluations and develops treatment plan for patients with hand/upper

extremity injuries or dysfunction, including infants and children, adolescents, adults,

geriatrics and frail elderly, inpatient and outpatient.

 

Provides individual treatment to remediate, restore and/or compensate for sensorimotor,

neuromuscular, or musculoskeletal dysfunction. Fabricates static and dynamic splints,

utilizes physical agent modalities as per licensure and training.  Facilitates return to activities

of daily living through provision of adaptive devices, education in compensatory techniques

and use of goal directed activities. Educates patient in injury prevention and health promotion

techniques.

 

Educates patient, family and other caregivers in therapy program and goals. Participates in

patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, assists discharge planning.

Documents care provided in medical record, completes therapy billing.

 

Completes department statistics. Assists in maintenance of orderly, safe and efficient

working environment.  Assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned. Delegates caseload to therapist assistants, overseeing quality of care and supervising performance. Participates in department quality improvement/assurance activities and program development initiatives.

 

Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives

 

Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.

 

Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.

 

Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements including Joint Commission, DPH and HIPPA.

 

Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.

 

Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

 

 

All responsibilities are essential job functions unless noted otherwise.

 

 

III.  Position Qualifications:

 

Bachelors or Basic Master's degree in Occupational from accredited OT school or equivalent.  Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  AOTCB certification, or eligible and

registered for next examination COT.  

 

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

 

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies, and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.  The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description.  Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

Work is considered light.  Position requires work indoors in patient care environment.
