Summary: Under the direction of the CNO, is responsible for directing and coordinating the daily departmental Nursing practice activities of the Surgical Departments. Collaborates with the CNO to manage and direct the execution of professional nursing practice on a day-to-day and shift-to-shift basis.  Responsible and accountable for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the staff development and educational activities for assigned area(s).  Assures the quality of patient care delivered on assigned unit(s) through the assessment, coaching, and development of the nursing staff.   

Qualifications: Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse licensure. CNOR/BSN required; MSN preferred. Works collaboratively with Chiefs of Surgery and Anesthesia. Regularly scheduled multidisciplinary meetings are attended. Staff clearly articulate mutually developed goals of the department and plan to achieve. Booking and daily scheduling are monitored for effective problem solving and flexibility and communicated with the surgeon’s offices involved. Minimum five years related clinical experience and at least one-year experience in the clinical preceptor and/or resource role. Minimum three years’ experience in teaching preferred. Demonstrated leadership experience required. Interpersonal skills essential to handle sensitive issues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required Or an equivalent combination of above
