Why Be a Nurse at UMass Memorial Health?
Everyone is a caregiver at UMass Memorial Health, and that is especially true of our nurses on the patient units. As the area’s only Level 1 Trauma Center, our UMass Memorial Medical Center provides nurses with the opportunity to provide exceptional care in an academic setting using the latest research and technology. And our community hospitals, through a wide range of specialty services, support the health and wellness needs of our communities and foster a close-knit environment for our caregivers. No matter the specialty, we are always looking to add dedicated nurses to our team of caregivers. Don’t see an opening in your preferred specialty? Join Our Talent Pool and our talent acquisition team will contact you about upcoming opportunities.
New Graduate Nurse Residency Program: The New Graduate Nurse (NGN) Residency Program is designed for the newly graduated nurse (RN) who has successfully passed the NCLEX exam and who has less than nine months of work experience as an RN. Over the course of the program, the new graduate RN will participate in educational sessions designed to support the development of critical thinking, professional practice behaviors, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, clinical judgment, and knowledge assimilation to a high-tech, acute care environment.
In addition, new graduate nurses are partnered with preceptors who have experience in practice. New graduate nurses will orient on one unit with their preceptors and will be expected to work up to 40 hours per week on a varying schedule that may include evening, night shift, weekends and holidays. Following successful completion of unit orientation, new graduate nurses will integrate into a unit as independent RNs in a position that will vary in hours and shift based on the unit needs.
