Mon-Fri , 20 hours per week . Schedule is as directed by the program manager.

 
 
Position Summary:
 
This position is responsible for delivering a full range of direct clinical services to Weight Center patients, such as psychological testing (if indicated) and individual case consultation with Physicians. Functions as a bariatric psychological provider having direct financial implications on the economic viability of the program particularly as it relates to meeting the requirements of third party payers.
 
Collaborates as member of inter-disciplinary team (physician, nursing, psychologist, social worker) for the development and delivery of treatment plans and discharge planning for patients.
 
Major Responsibilities:
 

  • Performs psychological evaluations for weight loss surgery (WLS) (e.g. presenting problem, history of presenting problem, psychiatric history, social history, mental status exam, dynamic formulation), including thorough cognitive and behavioral assessment of patients contemplating weight loss surgery to ensure quality care consistent with professional/ethical guidelines.
  • Assess pre and post-surgery substance abuse concerns and refers assessment to appropriate resources.
  • Screens pre-weight loss surgery patients for psychopathology. Makes pre-surgical psychological treatment recommendation to ensure timeliness of surgery.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans. Assesses patient’s progress and updates treatment plans by formulating recommendations to minimize post-surgical challenges and improve treatment safety and effectiveness.
  • Addresses behavioral and psychological factors related to suboptimal post-surgical weight loss.
 
Position Qualifications:
 
License/Certification/Education:
 
Required:
  • Doctoral degree, (Ph.D. Psy. D. or Ed.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited university or professional school. 
  • License as clinical psychologist.
Preferred:
  • Active membership in professional organizations related to the provision of bariatric behavioral health services is strongly encouraged.
 
Experience/Skills:
 
Required:
  • Three years of experience is required.
  • Requires expertise in the assessment and treatment of the obese patient and the concomitant behavioral and psychological variables associated with obesity and weight loss surgery.
