Academic Hematopathologist

Worcester, MA

The Department of Pathology at UMass Memorial Medical Center / University of Massachusetts Medical School is seeking a hematopathologist. UMass Memorial Medical Center is the premier health care provider in central Massachusetts and is the teaching hospital of the University of Massachusetts. The department has over thirty faculty members and offers a variety of practice environments through our subspecialty academic pathology practice and our community pathology practice, with a combined volume of approximately 90,000 surgical pathology and 35,000 cytology specimens per year.

The ideal candidate will be board certified in AP (or AP/CP) and in Hematopathology, have at least four years of diagnostic experience in an academic setting, and have a record of publications reflecting the candidate’s investigative interest in hematopathology. The faculty member will be responsible for directing the ACGME-accredited hematopathology fellowship program, which takes one fellow each year, and for mentoring residents, fellows, and other trainees through research projects and career pathways. Clinical responsibilities include diagnostic hematopathology, flow cytometry, and tumor board coverage, with additional leadership opportunities available commensurate with the candidate's experience. Additional interest or expertise in molecular pathology and other pathology subspecialties will be considered favorably.

The Department of Pathology offers a friendly and collegial work environment and aims to support faculty in their desired career paths with respect to the development and maintenance of their clinical areas of expertise, teaching and leadership opportunities, and academic productivity. The department has an active residency program with approximately four residents per class and offers ACGME-accredited fellowship training in GI pathology, women’s pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, and dermatopathology. Our faculty has rich interactions and close connections with health care teams in many other clinical departments and divisions.

There are many opportunities for teaching and research as a faculty member, with translational research opportunities throughout the medical school and hospital, and with active immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and molecular diagnostics laboratories within the department.
