The Department of Radiology at UMass Memorial Medical Center www.umassmed.edu/radiology performs over 900,000 studies per year across five hospitals and an outpatient MRI center. Current faculty include 65 fellowship trained Radiologists, all practicing in organ or modality-based divisions, including a 24/7/365 Emergency Radiology Division. The department trains 5 Residents per year (20 total). UMass Memorial Health is the largest health care system in Central Massachusetts with over 1 million lives in our catchment area.

As the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Radiology faculty have academic appointments at UMass Medical School, with ample opportunity for clinical and/or basic science research. There are extensive opportunities for additional leadership roles at UMass Medical School, as well as opportunities in Health Care Delivery Research, Simulation, Anatomy, and Quality/Safety and Process Improvement that can be tailored to individual’s interests and experience.

The Abdominal Imaging Division is currently comprised of 5 full-time and 5 part-time faculty members. All sites are on EPIC and a new enterprise-wide AGFA PACS system with TeraRecon image processing software and PowerScribe 360. The division trains 1-2 fellow(s) per year, as well as an “MRI” fellow who devotes 25% effort to abdominal imaging.

The division provides a full range of diagnostic services including XR, fluoroscopy, US, CT, and MRI. Imaging services are provided in close collaboration with colleagues in Surgery, Oncology, Medical Subspecialties, and Primary Care. Therefore, the candidate should have excellent communication skills with strong diagnostic skills in interpreting tertiary-level Abdominal Radiology cases. Experience with transplant ultrasound and advanced body MRI are required. Proficiency with CT colonography would be helpful but not required.

US-guided and CT-guided abdominal interventional procedures are performed in coordination with the Interventional Radiology Division. Interest in these procedures, including paracentesis, biopsies, and drainages, is welcome but not required.

UMass Memorial is located 40 miles from downtown Boston, easily accessible from the Mass Pike. Many faculty live in the immediate Boston suburbs, and enjoy a stress-free 35 minute “reverse” commute to work and home. Our department offers a reading-room in Wellesley, MA – where faculty who live closer to Boston can work on a regular basis. The communities immediately surrounding UMass offer exceptional schools and affordable housing. The department places a strong emphasis on providing an attractive work/life balance.
