Position Summary: We are looking for an experienced and energetic pediatric hematology/oncology nurse practitioner or physician assistant to join our division within the Department of Pediatrics at UMass Chan Medical School. We are a group of five faculty (3.5 clinical FTE) and two APPs providing the primary pediatric heme/onc coverage for central Massachusetts. This includes a wide variety of oncologic diagnoses, as well as acute and chronic hematologic disorders, including a large population of patients with sickle cell disease. Responsibilities will include both inpatient and outpatient clinical coverage: rounding with attendings, outpatient clinic, family education, nurse education and community outreach. Additional responsibilities will include administrative support for another pediatric subspeciality.

Major Responsibilities:

· Outpatient: Independently examine, assess, and formulate treatment plans for oncology and hematology patients, with physician immediately available for consultation.

· Chemotherapy administration: Manage therapeutic regimen as defined by the primary oncologist and outlined by established protocols. Reassess and modify plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goals. Confer with physician for clinical direction as outlined by protocols.

· Document patient care outcomes to determine effectiveness of plan of care. Communicate outcomes with physician. Triage outpatients by phone, coordinate patient care, scheduling and visits.

· Maintain department specific competencies that are degree specific, age specific to the discipline and license specific per certifying authority.

· Other responsibilities to be determined by service needs.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

--Required:

• Masters or doctoral degree.

• Graduate of approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program with certification.

• Current Massachusetts license.

Experience/Skills:

--Preferred:

· 3-5 years of experience.

· Experience with bone marrow biopsy and intrathecal administration of chemotherapy is preferred.
