Title: Communications Manager

Position Summary:
 
Serves as a dynamic communications professional in a growing, fast-moving academic medical center environment. Develops and implements internal communications and content marketing strategies, plans and projects in support of UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC) initiatives and communication needs. Understands UMMMC brand voice and writes clear, compelling and engaging content for various audiences and channels, particularly internal stakeholders and frontline caregivers. This candidate will immerse in the Medical Center community and partner with colleagues to create cutting edge, effective communication modalities while leveraging strong writing skills and a powerful storytelling ability to engage all caregivers in a 24/7/365 environment.

Builds and optimizes the social media presence of Medical Center leaders while measuring the effectiveness of campaigns, develops content and maintains day-to-day social media conversations. Partners with marketing and communications colleagues to identify external speaking and award opportunities, media engagement, and community interaction for strategic organizational and clinical leaders. Works under the direction of Chief Communications Officer at UMass Memorial Medical Center and in collaboration with members of the marketing and communications team.

Major Responsibilities:

    • Establishes and implements content strategies and tactics in support of UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC) mission and goals.
    • Researches, creates, writes and edits various forms of content (video scripts, intranet news stories, speeches, newsletters, etc.), maintaining the highest quality of information.
    • Manages the quality, accuracy and alignment of projects.
    • Collaborates with leadership, marketing communications team members and other areas to develop clear and effective communications plans and engaging content.
    • Develops close working relationships with Medical Center clinical entities and leaders as a way to establish the consistent sharing of news, events, and content opportunities.
Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
 
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing or related field.
 
Experience/Skills Required:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in writing and/or editing for multiple platforms.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in social media, with proven experience building successful social media profiles for leaders from the ground up.
  • Strong working knowledge of various digital communications tools and knowledge of industry standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to develop effective and compelling content for various audiences and purposes, including written and video content.
  • Exceptional writing and visual design sense with the ability to tailor messaging to various segmented audiences.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-directed with an ability to set priorities.
  • Solid understanding of social media landscape, platforms and measurement tools.
  • Organized, detail oriented and focused on execution.
  • Solutions oriented/problem solver.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship management attributes to be demonstrated through interaction with physicians, administrative leadership, employees and community members.
  • Self-directed with an ability to set priorities and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred:  
  • Prior experience within a health care environment.
  • Strong editorial background with outstanding writing/journalistic skills, particularly with multilingual ability.
  • Knowledge of HTML and/or experience with tools used to modify web pages and edit web imagery.
  • Experience in e-mail marketing/campaign management, pay-per-click (PPC) and online display advertising, and SEO.
