Front-End Developer - Web Accessibility Focus
Description
Tyler Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Web Accessibility-Focused Front-End Developer who will play a pivotal role in creating, testing and remediating accessible, user-friendly web applications. This role involves combining strong front-end development expertise with an emphasis on accessibility testing and remediation, ensuring that all web applications comply with accessibility standards and offer an inclusive digital experience for all users.
In this role, you will work closely with design, product, and development teams to identify, test, and address accessibility barriers while ensuring a seamless user experience across all devices. You will advocate for accessibility throughout the entire development process, from design to deployment, and contribute to refining accessibility standards and practices within the organization.
You must be able to work at least 3 days a week at our BGC Office in Taguig.
Responsibilities
- Accessibility Testing & Auditing: Conduct thorough accessibility audits using both manual and automated methods, leveraging tools like ARC, Axe, WAVE, and screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, etc.).
- Accessibility Remediation: Identify, prioritize, and address accessibility issues across web applications, ensuring compliance with WCAG, Section 508, ARIA, ADA, and other relevant accessibility standards.
- Front-End Development: Write clean, maintainable code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build visually appealing, interactive, and accessible web applications. Implement design patterns that align with accessibility best practices and ensure a seamless user experience across different screen sizes and devices.
- Cross-Browser & Mobile Accessibility: Troubleshoot and resolve accessibility issues across various web browsers and devices, with a particular focus on mobile responsiveness and ensuring cross-browser compatibility.
- Collaboration & Advocacy: Work with UX/UI designers, product managers, and development teams to integrate accessibility into design and development workflows. Advocate for accessibility-first approaches and educate stakeholders about the importance of accessible design.
- Performance Optimization: Ensure that accessibility does not compromise performance. Optimize web applications for fast load times while maintaining a fully accessible user experience.
- Test Automation for Accessibility: Implement accessibility test automation strategies using frameworks like Selenium, Cypress, and Cucumber, integrating these tests into the development pipeline to streamline the testing and remediation process.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with the latest accessibility tools, trends, and best practices, continuously improving processes and documentation related to accessibility.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain clear and detailed documentation of accessibility audits, remediation efforts, and standards. Provide actionable accessibility recommendations and track the progress of remediation efforts.
- Collaboration with Development Teams: Work closely with back-end developers to ensure smooth integration of front-end code and accessibility features.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in front-end development and accessibility testing/remediation.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript with a focus on building semantic, accessible code.
- Expertise in accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.0/2.1/2.2, Section 508, ARIA, and ADA.
- Experience with accessibility testing tools like ARC, Axe, WAVE, and screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, etc.).
- Familiarity with front-end frameworks such as Angular, React or Vue.js, and the ability to ensure accessibility in these environments.
- Test automation experience using tools like Selenium, Cypress, and Cucumber for accessibility testing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address complex accessibility challenges.
- Knowledge of responsive web design principles and ensuring accessibility across different screen sizes and devices.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) for managing code.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with TPGi's ARC Platform and tooling for accessibility testing and reporting.
- Experience building, remediating and working with, Web Components (Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, Templates).
- Familiarity with CSS preprocessors like Sass or Less, and modern front-end development practices.
- Experience with continuous integration (CI) tools and implementing accessibility tests within CI pipelines.
- IAAP certification or similar credentials in accessibility testing is a plus.
- Familiarity with design systems and the creation, advancement and use of accessible UI components within comprehensive design and pattern libraries.
