Do you have a reporter’s instinct and experience in corporate reputation management? Tyler Technologies is seeking a media relations manager to lead a team of professionals in proactive PR and reputation management as an integral part of a dynamic corporate communications team. You will work with the team to determine media relations strategy and manage all aspects of proactive PR, media monitoring, reputation management, and agency activities. You will also contribute to strategies for thought leadership and social media. You will bring your understanding of the current media landscape to promote healthy PR practices with clients and project teams, identify useful supplemental materials, analyze metrics, and develop effective reports. 

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that will keep you engaged. You will write, edit, collaborate on, and manage a variety of corporate materials, as well as serving as an internal consultant to Tyler divisions. Because we are a software company, materials may be technical in nature and require clarification for different audiences. Understanding of local government and the public sector is important. Responsibilities

  • Develops media relations plans to support Tyler’s overall marketing strategy, including defining key audiences and key messages, expectations, competitive climate, and intended results.
  • Coordinates with marketing leads to identify potential client success stories and/or trade editorial opportunities.
  • Directs team and agency in mining for stories to support pitching opportunities.
  • Facilitates media interviews with company leadership and other internal subject matter experts.
  • Looks for industry opportunities that increase company credibility including industry speaking opportunities, professional associations, conference attendance, panel discussions, etc.
  • Develops and maintains strategies for early identification, evaluation, and approaches to risk scenarios.
  • Directs team in writing and editing corporate press and investor materials, including press releases, corporate backgrounders, talking points, executive bios, historical timelines, etc., to ensure consistency of message and tone.
  • Provides reasoned and informed consultation on reputation management issues.
  • Ensures appropriate tracking, measurement, and analysis of team’s performance against goals, and adjusts where necessary as media tools and trends evolve.
  • Works collaboratively as part of the corporate communications team.
  • Aids in the continuing development of staff members and provides ongoing guidance, training and direction in achieving the team and company objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or comparable work experience
  • 10-12 years media experience in a B2B or business-to-government environment
  • Experience handling reputation management and crisis PR, especially in the local government or public sector vertical
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to generate impactful messages is required, demonstrated through writing samples and references
  • Technology/software industry experience desired; public sector experience preferred
  • Experience effectively managing a variety of projects and timelines
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and deliver under pressure
  • Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and especially PowerPoint)
  • Experience in a leadership or management role a plus
  • An excellent understanding of technology applications, data management, image/media files, web media/interactive marketing, etc.
