Corporate Litigation Counsel
Description
We are seeking a Corporate Litigation Counsel (aka Corporate Attorney) to join our team. This role is ideally located in our Overland Park, KS office on a hybrid (2-3 days in office) arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee outside litigation counsel to support the company’s litigation efforts and ensure efficient use of company resources.
- Monitor and manage the company’s litigation portfolio, including tracking deadlines, budgets and outcomes.
- Draft and review legal documents as assigned, including dispute letters, mediation statements, position statements, affidavits, and agreements.
- Oversee the company’s responses to subpoenas, including drafting business custodian affidavits.
- Manage litigation holds.
- Manage state, local and FCRA compliance with background checks.
- Advise on state-specific laws pertaining to the production of personnel records.
- Assist with review of litigation pleadings, draft briefs and discovery responses.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support the company’s position in litigation.
- Assist with interpretation of new employment laws in 50 states.
- Assist with non-compete disputes.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including other legal team members.
- Support settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution methods to effectively resolve legal disputes.
- Advise on potential risks and liabilities associated with business decisions and provide recommendations for risk mitigation.
- Assist with internal investigations.
- Draft training materials and create presentation slides to educate the company and employees on legal risks and compliance requirements.

Qualifications
- Law degree from accredited law school.
- Licensed in good standing to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
- 4+ years of commercial litigation experience at a law firm with broad exposure all phases of pre-litigation and litigation, including discovery, trial and case evaluation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Careful attention to detail and high quality of work product.
- Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
