The Opportunity

As a Controller, you will oversee the financial and operational accounting functions for multiple apartment home funds. This is a key leadership role responsible for financial reporting, cash management, audit and tax coordination, and team development. You’ll ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in all financial processes while mentoring a team of accounting professionals. Compensation & Schedule

This position offers a competitive annual salary of $175,000 – $195,000, based on experience. The schedule is Monday through Friday, in-office at our Irvine, CA location. Local candidates only, please.

What You’ll Own

Financial Leadership & Reporting

  • Oversee accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes for a large multifamily portfolio.
  • Ensure financial records and reports comply with GAAP and company policies.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and account analyses.
  • Manage cash flow and fund-level cash management activities.
  • Coordinate and review year-end audits and tax preparation.
  • Monitor reporting deadlines to ensure all obligations are met.

Operational Excellence

  • Partner with internal teams and external auditors/tax advisors to ensure smooth audit and compliance processes.
  • Drive process improvements and efficiencies across accounting operations.
  • Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Team Development & Leadership

  • Train, manage, and mentor a team of 6–8 accounting professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous growth.
  • Set clear expectations and provide ongoing coaching and support.

What You Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Certification: CPA required.
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive real estate accounting experience, including public accounting.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Yardi experience preferred.
  • Attributes: Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage competing priorities with accuracy.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams in a fast-paced environment.

We Take Care of You

  • Medical, Dental & Vision: Free PPO-HSA medical plan (with a $1,200 annual employer contribution) for employees outside California. In California, employees may choose between the free PPO-HSA and an HMO plan. Trinity covers 100% of the monthly premium costs for employee dental and vision.
  • Retirement Plans: 401(k) program with an employer match of 1/3 of your contributions up to 2% of your salary, eligible the first of the month following hire date.
  • Group Life & Disability Insurance: Up to $100,000 in life insurance and AD&D coverage, plus short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Time Off: Competitive paid holidays, 2–4 weeks of vacation based on years of service (available after 90 days of full-time employment), and sick leave provided in compliance with state and local requirements.
  • Referral Bonuses: $1,000 for eligible employee referrals.
  • Volunteer Time Off: Up to 16 hours annually (8 for personal volunteer activities, 8 for company-sponsored events).

Requirements

Physical Demands
Regular sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands/arms. Extended computer and phone use required. Ability to respond to visual and auditory alarms.

  • This is an in-office position, based at Trinity Property Consultants’ National Headquarters in Irvine, CA.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as deadlines and projects require.
  • Active participation in company and team functions.
