Enterprise Architect (AWS Migration & Application Modernization)

Location:  Johannesburg, South Africa . Hybrid – 3 days from office

Role Overview 

We are looking for a seasoned Enterprise Architect with a proven track record in Cloud transformations, VMware-to-AWS migration, and application modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will lead large-scale cloud transformation initiatives including portfolio discovery, defining enterprise architectures & standards (across infrastructure & application landscape), application modernization strategies, overseeing technical delivery across complex enterprise environments, that improve scalability, resilience, security, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities  

• Define and govern the target-state enterprise architecture for client’s cloud transformation, ensuring alignment with business, technology, security, and regulatory objectives.
• Lead architecture strategy and decision-making for VMware-to-AWS migration, hybrid cloud adoption, and application modernisation initiatives.
• Establish and enforce architecture standards, principles, governance processes, and design reviews across infrastructure, applications, data, security, and integration domains.
• Drive application modernisation strategies including rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, containerisation, and cloud-native adoption.
• Lead data architecture and data governance initiatives, ensuring data quality, lineage, security, compliance, and ownership across the enterprise.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, technology teams, security, operations, and delivery partners to ensure successful program outcomes.
• Provide architectural leadership to executive governance forums, steering committees, and transformation programs.
• Ensure solutions meet resilience, availability, performance, disaster recovery, operational readiness, and compliance requirements.

Ideal Candidate Profile  

• 15+ years of Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, or Technology Transformation experience.
• Proven experience leading large-scale VMware-to-AWS migration programs.
• Strong enterprise architecture experience covering business, application, data, infrastructure, integration, and security domains.
• Deep knowledge of AWS cloud architecture, cloud operating models, and hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience with application modernisation and cloud-native transformation.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture, data governance, data migration, and regulatory data management.
• Experience within highly regulated environments, preferably Financial Services, Banking, Capital Markets, or Exchanges.
• Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
• Experience establishing architecture governance, standards, roadmaps, and decision frameworks.

Preferred Skills

• Experience within Stock Exchanges, Capital Markets, Trading, Clearing, Settlement, or Financial Market Infrastructure environments.
• Knowledge of AWS Landing Zones, Control Tower, EKS, containers, microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with DevSecOps, platform engineering, and cloud operating model transformation.
• Knowledge of security architecture, cyber resilience, disaster recovery, and operational risk frameworks.
• Experience with enterprise data platforms, analytics, data cataloguing, metadata management, and master/reference data management.
• Familiarity with regulatory, governance, and compliance requirements applicable to financial institutions.

• TOGAF Certified Enterprise Architect (Required)
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (Required)
• AWS Security Specialty (Preferred)
• AWS Advanced Networking Specialty (Preferred)
