Benton Triage is seeking an experienced Underground Locator to accurately identify and mark utilities, support drill operators, and ensure safe, efficient installation of underground conduit and cables. This hands-on role includes verifying bore paths, recording depths, operating excavation equipment, and overseeing crew quality and safety throughout all phases of underground construction.
Responsibilities:
- Record tool head depths and ensure drill alignment at exit points
- Work with Drill operator - locating drill head, recording depths and ensure drill alignment at exit points
- Locate and mark underground utilities (water, gas, electric, telecom) using magnetic, radar, and electrical equipment.
- Operate excavation equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, and hydro-vac units.
- Walk and verify bore paths, ensuring proper clearances for installation.
- Place conduit and cables in trenches, splice conduit sections, and install anchors, pedestals, vaults, and other components.
- Monitor crew members and oversee work quality and time management.
- Safely operate tools and equipment including tamps, jackhammers, core drills, and concrete saws.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends when needed.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity.
- Environmental conditions: Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions. exposure is heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration and very loud noise. Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Repeated and frequent ability to lift, from floor to above head 80 lbs. continuously and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time. Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
- Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds.
- Must be able to clearly see color and shading in plans and materials. Must have vision to allow differences in colors, shades, and brightness.
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business.
