Senior Reinsurance Associate – Ceded Reinsurance

Location

Remote OR Hybrid (Manchester, NH)

Summary

This position is responsible for calculating, validating & billing Reinsurance asset due on claims paid, advising reserve changes held for future billings to the market, ensuring the reinsurance asset is correctly recorded and support timely/accurate notification of current status of reinsurance claims to brokers and reinsurers. Also support the cash application function and other company projects as needed.  The successful applicant will have a solid understanding and track record of understanding reinsurance structures, billing complex APH and Non-APH claims and recording reinsurance asset.

Essential Functions

Billing:

  • Solid understanding of key reinsurance terms in a reinsurance contract
  • Solid understanding of different types of reinsurance contracts (Fac/QS/XoL)
  • Expert in of reinsurance billing and record keeping processes
  • Proven ability to follow company processes for both automatic and manual processes
  • Skilled in billing brokers and reinsurers on assigned reinsurance claims within the timeframe expected within department and within contractual terms
  • Solid knowledge of application of different expense calculations (Within limits/Pro-rata) and how to interpret this from underlying policy to reinsurance contract wording.
  • Experience and understanding of how schedule F Penalty is calculated and how to strategize billing work to reduce this penalty.
  • Know how and when to provide status of assigned reinsurance claim billings and to escalate issues
  • Skilled in establishing controls to ensure the billing matches the asset being recorded and to validate once recoded.
  • Assist/support collections in resolving queries in relation to the billings.

Notifications and Reporting:

  • Validate and understand reinsurance structures for a direct policy or assumed contract
  • Distribute updates on reinsurance claims to reinsurers within expected timeframes
  • To maintain log and diary of reporting and notifications.
  • Follow company processes for both automatic and manual notifications
  • Lead reporting initiatives on emerging claims and large negotiated settlements

 

Risk and control Reporting:

  • Provide relevant data and evidence of compliance in support of in/external risk, controls and audit reporting

Other

  • Strong organizer and ability to prioritize and reach deadlines with multiple competing objectives and tasks
  • Communicate and interact with reinsurers, brokers, and various departments within Company as needed
  • Identify and implement process improvements for BNR
  • Flexibility and skill to assist management in various initiatives as needed and tasks as delegated
  • Support reinsurance system improvements through user acceptance testing
  • Contribute to all assigned departmental and/or company objectives and initiatives
  • Serves on organizational committees or projects as assigned

Experience

  • 5 plus years of Ceded reinsurance collections and billings experience required
  • Asbestos, Pollution, Health Hazard and other complex claim experience
  • Billing and Receivables experience, within a Reinsurance department

Required Education

Four-year college degree

Preferred Education or Certification

Professional designation (ARe, CLIP)

This position operates in a professional cubicle based collaborative environment and must have the ability to timely produce thorough, accurate work with many competing demands, deadlines, and distractions. The position uses standard equipment such as phones, computers, copiers/printers and filing cabinets. Noise level is moderate.
