Summary

Performs various accounting duties which includes collecting financial data, general ledger journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliation, analysis, internal and external reporting. Supports a monthly close process with quarterly reporting deliverables.

Essential Functions

  • Performs various accounting work for RiverStone, including its subsidiaries.
  • Provides timely preparation and distribution of account reconciliations and analysis.
  • Prepares general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Participates and provides assistance for the auditing process.
  • Collects financial data for preparation, maintenance and analysis of various general ledger accounts.
  • Monitors various activities and transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitors various aspects of assigned area for compliance with required recording and reporting.
  • Specific focus on the accounting and analysis of various program business (TPA’s).
  • Prepares supplemental schedules for Fairfax reporting.
  • Prepares supplemental schedules for Annual Statement reporting.
  • Assists the business with ad hoc requests and special projects as needed related to Corporate accounting.
  • Analyze financial data.
  • Prepares external audit supporting documentation.
  • Assists with internal and external financial reporting packages.
  • Compiles and records recurring monthly transactions.
  • Completes month end clearing account reconciliations and re-class entries as needed.
  • Serves as backup for OneStream interfaces and ledger feeds.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Responsible for the execution of required operational changes.

 Required Skills

  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate Excel and SQL knowledge.
  • Technical competence in data querying languages such as SQL and ability to execute basic level data queries.
  • Computer skills in a Microsoft environment.
  • Able to work in a fast paced deadline oriented environment.
  • Solid analytical ability and the demonstrated ability to effectively perform within a team oriented environment.
  • Customer service oriented with the ability for developing long lasting relationships with internal and external business partners.

  • Assist in basic-level data research.

 

Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience in Accounting; preferably in the financial services industry.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred.
  • Statutory and IFRS experience a plus.
  • Insurance Accounting experience a plus.

 

Required Education

Four-year college degree in Accounting or related field required.

Preferred Education or Certification

CPA designation, or CPA eligible.

Minimal to none, based upon business needs.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

This position operates in a professional based collaborative environment and must have the ability to timely produce thorough, accurate work with many competing demands, deadlines, and distractions. The position uses standard equipment such as headsets, computers, copiers/printers and filing cabinets.
