Reinsurance Collection Specialist - Ceded Reinsurance

Location

Remote or Hybrid (Manchester, NH)

Summary

Under moderate supervision, the Reinsurance Collections Specialist is responsible for collecting monies due from reinsurers. The Reinsurance Collection Specialist will also participate in reinsurance and company projects as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Collect reinsurance recoverable balances in accordance with business rules, including placing direct phone calls and emails
  • Maintain the collection diary on continuing and targeted collection efforts in accordance with business rules
  • Escalate complex collection issues and disputes appropriately
  • Review and respond to correspondence from reinsurers and/or brokers including providing substantive analysis of claim and reinsurance issues as necessary
  • Coordinate with Claims to ensure reinsurance reports are produced consistent with reinsurance reporting obligations
  • Collaborate with Billing & Receivables team to investigate and resolve billing discrepancies raised by reinsurer or broker
  • Ensure accuracy of records and adherence to internal controls
  • Recommend improvements to contract and collections processes
  • May support reinsurance system improvements through user acceptance testing
  • Maintains high degree of confidentiality

  • Contribute to all assigned departmental and/or company objectives and initiatives
  • Serves on organizational committees or projects as assigned

Related Functions:

  • Support to reinsurance counsel on pending arbitration and litigation as necessary
  • Support commutations, novations, consolidations, acquisitions and migrations as needed
  • Support as needed to internal audit inquiries as necessary

Required Skills

  • Intermediate understanding of underlying claims, including coverage issues and allocation analysis
  • Intermediate understanding of reinsurance issues
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision
  • Good organizational skills required.  Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple assignments or projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proficient use of common business applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook
  • High level of competency with Reinsurance Systems

Experience

  • 2-5 years’ experience in reinsurance collections or equivalent reinsurance or direct claims experience

Required Education

Two-year college, trade, or technical school required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Preferred Education or Certification

Completion of or intent to begin coursework toward professional designation (ARe, CLIP) within 18 months of hire

This position operates in a professional, collaborative environment and must have the ability to timely produce thorough, accurate work with many competing demands, deadlines, and distractions. The position uses standard equipment such as phones, computers, copiers/printers and filing cabinets. Noise level is moderate.
