Complex Assumed Claims Analyst

Location

Remote or Hybrid (Manchester, NH)

Summary

Reporting to a Manager, Assumed Claims, this role handles assumed claims of severity and complexity, including resolution of coverage and liability issues, claim evaluation, establishment of adequate reserves, claim resolution, transaction processing, and implementation of strategic initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Handles moderate to complex assumed claims (and those with increased financial risk to RiverStone Affiliates) effectively.
  • Mentors and guides less experienced Assumed Claims Analysts.
  • Displays strong review and analysis of complex treaty programs and facultative certificates.
  • Displays strong knowledge of complex coverage and contract issues.
  • Displays strong knowledge of how to track and understand complex corporate history transactions.
  • Displays strong knowledge of underlying direct claims.
  • Anticipates and identifies risks on cessions.
  • Displays strong report writing and preparation skills.
  • Operates independently with low to moderate management oversight of day-to-day functions.
  • Displays increasing comfort with data analysis processes and works collaboratively with those subject matter experts
  • Coordinates and manages workload so day-to-day claim handling functions remain prioritized along with the more complex functions the job demands.   
  • Displays a commitment to RiverStone, a desire to understand other departments and business processes, and a commitment to continuously improve employee relationships as well as business practices.
  • Reviews loss notices; confirms and interprets contract coverages; establishes adequate reserves; and investigates and handles assumed claims.
  • Provides recommendations on reserves and payments.
  • Interacts with cedants and brokers in the investigation of assumed claims.
  • Participates in settlement negotiation with moderate assistance from management.
  • Prepares necessary written reports.
  • Handles moderate to high volume of diverse and dynamic assumed claims effectively.
  • Anticipates and identifies risks on cessions.
  • Serves on Companywide committees and projects as assigned.
  • Develops creative ideas and solutions to real-time business problems and/or business opportunities; takes reasonable, calculated risks even if failure is possible.
  • Empowers self and teammates to continuously improve RiverStone’s business processes/systems; develops and escalates solutions.
  • Consistently delivers superior customer service to both internal and external business partners.
  • Performs special projects and assignments related to area of authority as necessary.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Assumed/Direct claims handling or experience in a related field.

Required Education

Four-year college degree required or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Education or Certification

JD, CPCU, SCLA, CCLA

Supervisory Role 

Schedule, assign, and review the work of others in compliance with specific instructions.

Travel

Moderate to frequent, based upon business needs.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

This position operates in a professional, collaborative environment and must have the ability to timely produce thorough, accurate work with many competing demands, deadlines, and distractions. The position uses standard equipment such as phones, computers, copiers/printers and filing cabinets. Noise level is moderate.
