Trek’s Web Technologies department is seeking eager, enthusiastic and talented students for our ongoing internship program. We aim to give opportunities for students who are looking to gain real life experience with software development principles and concepts learned in school, offer the ability to work with a world class company and brand that pushes the cycling industry forward through use of technology.  Our program will offer opportunities to be mentored in a highly collaborative, fast paced environment; working on special projects, technical support issues, assisting our day to day team with agile development, as well as learning about the cycling industry – all with a work hard play hard mentality! 


Position Description: 


Trek Bicycle’s Web Technologies department is looking for an intern with a strong interest in being a part of a DevOps team that supports a Continuous Integration pipeline for our production software.  DevOps Engineers at Trek work collaboratively with other teams to find solutions to automate infrastructure with Azure services, Chef cookbooks, and other tools.  The intern will work closely with team mentors, and will participate as a member of an Agile Scrum/Kanban team. 



Position Responsibilities:                                                                    

The DevOps Engineer will work multiple and concurrent activities in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, Agile software development environment.  This individual must be self-motivated, have a high sense of urgency, require minimal supervision, and manage issues in an efficient manner providing accurate status reports as required.  


Our internship program focuses on 4 major components which have responsibilities as follows: 


Special Projects 

Interns will work collaboratively on a special project where they bring ideas for a project using new technologies to hone skills.  This will require you to utilize skills for brainstorming sessions, reporting and pitching ideas to management, project management and troubleshooting skills, and meeting management. Outcome of the special project will be presented to the Web Tech team; what was the idea, how was the project accomplished and a demo of what the output was. 


Technical Support  

Support is a major component of our daily work. This role will assist with daily triage of support tickets which includes assisting with Jira and Confluence administration of backlog items. 


Assisting Web Tech Team 

Intern Analysts will pair up with up with experienced staff member to gain experience in the activities involved in successful completion an epic. 


Trek as a Brand and Company 

As part of the internship team, you will be participating in the activities that drive the company mission and develop stewardship skills toward cycling. 



Position Requirements: 

  • Seeking to learn more about DevOps practices and tools 
  • Familiarity with typical workflows and concepts of version control software such as git, subversion, etc. 
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) 
  • Able to work individually and within a team 
  • Able to think fast, and raise issues/concerns 


What You Will Learn: 

  • How Agile Scrum/Kanban work in practice 
  • How to develop software with a team, using a shared codebase 
  • Collaborative tools like Jira, Confluence, Slack, and Bitbucket 
  • DevOps tools like Docker, HashiCorp Terraform, Chef cookbooks and Automate, Jenkins, and Azure cloud services 
  • Challenges and tradeoffs involved in optimizing a CI/CD pipeline. 
  • How to monitor and troubleshoot web services and infrastructure
