PSW INSTRUCTOR 
Position Title: PSW Hybrid/NACC Instructor
Department: Academics
Program: PSW Programs
 
Responsibilities and duties: 
The instructor will guide, coach, and support students to succeed in their PSW program. The PSW instructor will be responsible for creating an effective adult learning environment and teaching the curriculum as outlined by the college, in accordance with the National Association of Career Colleges’ standard for PSW. 
The following qualifications are the minimum qualifications, and MUST be met for the primary Personal Support Worker Program Instructor: 
 Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with current  
registration and NO practice restrictions with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). 
• Must present with a minimum of two (2) years current, relevant work experience in a  
Canadian clinical environment, preferably in a long-term care/community/chronic care  
Setting. 
  • Clear Criminal Background Check. 
  • Meet Instructor qualification standards as outlined in the Regulations to Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005. 
  • Familiarity with Private Career Colleges and dealing with adult students will be considered an asset. 
 
Academic
  • Teach students following the approved curriculum, ensuring all course objectives and modules are taught according to the program schedules. 
  • Prepare teaching materials and outlines for courses in advance of class time. 
  • Teach students using a systematic plan that consists of lectures, demonstrations, discussion groups, interactive activities, independent and group projects 
  • Participate in the student appeal process when required. 
  • Organize and effectively use classroom time. 
  • Use instruction techniques/methods that recognize and consider the needs and learning capacities of students. 
  • Assist students in developing efficient learning skills and work habits. 
  • Establish an appropriate and inclusive atmosphere in the classroom which is conducive to learning. 
  • Provide clinical supervision when required following NACC guidelines.  
  • Maintain fair, firm, and consistent discipline with the students regarding academic and professional conduct. 
  • Prepare, administer, and grade evaluations providing detailed constructive feedback to students in a timely manner. 
  • Provide individualized tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it. 
  • Supervise independent or group projects. 
  • Keep accurate and complete records of student attendance and performance. 
  • Ensure all evaluation records are regularly updated on the college’s electronic server. 
  • Prepare final examinations following guidelines established on the course outline. 
 
Administrative 
  • Assist with tracking student hours following college procedures. 
  • Implement and follow the policies and procedures established by the college. 
  • Participate in meetings with staff when required. 
  • Participate in faculty professional development sessions. 
  • Maintain proper records of student meetings. 
  • Submit monthly reports to the Program Lead following Accreditation standards. 
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation in areas of responsibility. 
  • Maintain professional registration through your governing body. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Lead.
