Job Summary:  
Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Dispatcher performs technical work related to dispatching transit equipment and operators in response to required services during their assigned shift.  
Essential Duties:  
  • Open and/or close the facility at the beginning and/or end of daily operations, depending on the assigned shift.
  • Oversee driver sign-in and assign buses.
  • Review and make necessary changes to the dispatch sheet, checking operator availability.
  • Supervise the operation of the extra board, making assignments in proper rotation.
  • Receive information and complaint calls outside of regular office hours.
  • Receive calls regarding locations and descriptions of problems, and dispatch assistance as necessary.
  • Prepare charter assignments as needed.
  • Check operators for proper uniform compliance and review operator daily report sheets.
  • Prepare the extra board.
  • Review route modifications with supervisors and operators.
  • Report accidents to the police and Road Supervisors.
  • Record operators' time and complete pay record sheets.
  • Record bus defects, coordinate defect reports, and arrange for vehicle changes with the Maintenance Department.
  • Maintain dispatcher logs.
  • Inventory buses as needed, and check with the Maintenance Department regarding available equipment.
Qualifications:  
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class "B" CDL with a "P" endorsement.
  • General knowledge of radio procedures and two-way communication system operations.
  • General knowledge of the city's geography and location of major buildings.
  • Excellent attendance, safety, and customer service records.
  • Ability to deal with the public in challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of proper operation of the extra board and driver assignment procedures.
