Overview:   
Oversees the day-to-day functions of mechanics, and utility workers.  Maintenance facilities typically operate on a three-shift basis to ensure that maintenance on equipment is completed; tests and inspections of products, services and process to evaluate quality or performance of that equipment is accomplished; and specifications are met to DOT, client or Company standards.  Dependent on the location, there may be one to several Maintenance Supervisors per shift. 
 
Major Responsibilities:  
  •  Demonstrates and promotes a “Safety First” lifestyle at the location. 
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, counseling, and issuing discipline to maintenance staff members through documentation and terminate employees based on observed failure to perform the job in a safe manner and in accordance with Company and client specifications and just cause.
  • Oversees repairs, preventive maintenance, servicing and cleaning of revenue and non-revenue vehicles. 
  • Responsible for support services including heavy overhauls, light unit rebuilds, electronic and body repairs 
  • Responsible for the ordering of parts and maintaining inventory. 
  • Supervises maintenance personnel including training, scheduling, discipline and terminations. 
  •  Monitors technician performance and initiates appropriate disciplinary action in a manner consistent with company/location policy. 
  • Ensures that all mechanics have the proper licenses and certifications.   
  • Supervises and inspects major repairs and provide technical assistance to mechanics. 
  • Responsible for directing the work of all technicians including the development of work orders and the evaluation of all repairs performed by both the technicians and outside vendors 
  • Monitors radio communications during route times and ensures that all operator inquiries related to the mechanical operation of the vehicle are responded to immediately 
  • Advises Manager of individual situations that require further attention. 
  • Responsible for vehicle titles and registration; which includes Vehicle Change Notice’s and annual registration fees. 
  • Responsible for DOT compliance and inspections of revenue and service equipment. 
  • Other duties to ensure the efficient operation of the maintenance facility. 
Requirements:  
  • High School diploma required; some college preferred. 
  • Must have 3+ years of supervisory experience in a safety sensitive environment.
  • Must have 3+ years' experience dealing with gasoline passenger sized vehicles.  Experience with electric hybrid vehicles a plus. 
  • Experience working with Unions and in the transportation industry a must. 
  • Must have previous experience supervising employees on multiple shifts. 
  • ASE certifications are required. 
  • Must be a team player yet able to work well independently. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and possesses good judgment and discretion. 
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills. 
  • General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft office package. 
  • Must be able to work flexible hours or shifts.

  • 10% of work is accomplished in doors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities. 
  • 90% of work is accomplished outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; most work is performed alone and in remote locations.
  • Frequently stands and walks; ability to sit for up to three hours; walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift or handle material weighing up to 50 to 75 lbs. without assistance; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch; and corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication. 
  •  Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job. 
  • Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise. 
  • Exposure to cleaning solutions, oils, and other liquids. 
  • Must be able to travel for company training, meeting or support missions.
