Overview
The Transit Bus Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of bus transit services to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation. Reporting to the Division Manager, this role encompasses supervision of drivers and operational staff, route management, compliance with safety and regulatory standards, customer service excellence, and financial management to align with the operational budget.

Key Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight: Manage daily bus transit operations, including driver schedules, vehicle assignments, and on-time route performance.
- Supervision: Provide leadership to transit operators and operational staff, ensuring adherence to company policies and fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
- Service Monitoring: Monitor transit services in real time, addressing delays, breakdowns, or emergencies to maintain service continuity.
- Customer Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries, complaints, and service feedback, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and professionally.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all transit operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including ADA and safety standards.
- Incident Management: Coordinate responses to accidents, mechanical failures, or other emergencies, maintaining thorough documentation and implementing corrective actions.
- Training and Development: Work with the Safety and Training Manager to ensure operators are properly trained, certified, and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Performance Management: Evaluate the performance of staff, provide coaching and feedback, and administer disciplinary actions as required.
- Budget Management: Assist in managing the operational budget, optimizing resource allocation, and controlling costs.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and service quality.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, including maintenance and safety, to ensure seamless operations.
Qualifications
Education, Licensing, and Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in business administration, transportation management, or related field preferred.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience in transit or transportation operations.
- Demonstrated experience in employee supervision and customer service.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Comprehensive knowledge of transit operations, scheduling, and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local transit regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and transit management software.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong organizational abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage labor relations, including resolving grievances and overseeing contract compliance.
Travel Requirement:
- Occasional travel for meetings or site visits as needed; day-to-day travel to monitor routes and address operational issues.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Ability to maintain a valid DOT medical card.
- Successful completion of drug testing and a criminal background check.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate effectively.
- Occasionally required to lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Work environment includes time spent outdoors monitoring transit operations, often in varying weather conditions.
- Time spent in an office or vehicle environment for administrative tasks and on-site problem resolution.
