Position Overview: The Safety & Training Manager reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for every aspect of developing, promoting, delivering, and managing the safety programs at this location. Emphasis will be placed on achieving measurable results by creating a “Safety Culture” embraced by everyone within the organization. This person truly needs to be committed to a safety-first culture. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policy. This person also oversees our FTA Drug and Alcohol Program.
Responsibilities:
- Review all accident and incident reports, investigate causes, document findings, determine preventability, recommend corrective action, and maintain files.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, unusual occurrences, and on-the-job injuries, assist employees with completing appropriate reports; determine preventability of accidents in accordance with Transdev Guidelines.
- Remain on call during and provide planning for critical service periods, such as in the event of a major traffic delay and adverse weather.
- Conduct regular inspections, document findings, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Serve as the primary training officer for new operators, utilizing the Transdev Operator Development Training Program to onboard new hires.
- Complete monthly reports regarding accidents, incidents, etc.
- Retain drivers as needed and document training.
- Perform monthly inspections of the facility, including the maintenance shop, for safety compliance.
- Conduct regular Safety Meetings by preparing agendas and materials, including annual refresher training (e.g., wheelchair tie-down procedures). Track and document employee attendance.
- Provide a key point of contact with insurance carriers.
- Work closely with Human Resources on all workers’ compensation claims.
- Develop and deliver safety programs designed to reduce accidents and injuries and heighten overall safety awareness. Administer safety award programs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and US DOT compliance.
Qualifications:
- OSHA 30 or equivalent Certification, TSSP Certification preferred.
- Ability to obtain all required IS Certifications.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduating from college or university supplemented with experience in industrial/workplace safety and accident reduction.
- 5 years of Public Transit experience is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Comfortable speaking before groups.
- Familiarity and understanding of Federal, State, and Local workplace safety regulations.
- Accident and injury investigations training and experience.
- Understanding and experience in loss prevention and risk management.
- Experience and understanding of personal computers and Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of the geography of the city and location of major buildings.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods and operate office equipment.
