Dispatcher Part-Time
Job Responsibilities:
  • Schedules and dispatches drivers via both radio and window dispatch work
  • Answers calls from clients and schedule services.
  • Maintains records, logs, and schedules of the calls received to schedule transit services, drivers dispatched, and customer cancellations or no-shows.
  • Enters data into spreadsheets and databases.
  • Prepares reports on all activities occurring during their shifts.
  • Assists with the preparation of daily schedules and workflow related to daily scheduling.
  • Serves as an emergency contact for drivers in the field.
  • Coordinates communications between drivers and other supervisory, Risk Management, and Training/Safety personnel.
  • Coordinates with municipal, county, and other agencies in emergency situations or in traffic-routing problems, detours, enhanced service requirements
  • Provides coordination of schedules and directs work of Dispatchers in absence of Manager; works closely with Manager to administer the Dispatch function.
  • Documents and reports disciplinary issues to manager.
Other duties as required.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required.
 
Experience Required:
  • Two or more years of public transit experience preferred. 
 
Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Ability to organize logical and efficient schedules and routes and adapt to changes.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret transit system operating rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and routes.
  • Ability to assist handicapped passengers when needed.
  • General knowledge of the methods of operating two-way communications equipment and proper radio procedures, and ability to communicate via radio or communications system.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and organized in emergency and complex transit operation problems.
  • Ability to use a multi-line phone system and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.
Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% for occasional meetings
 
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must submit to drug testing and a criminal background check.
 
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Majority of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.
  • Majority of work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
