Position Overview

The Safety Manager reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for developing, promoting, delivering, and managing the safety programs at Transdev. Emphasis will be placed on achieving measurable results by creating a “Safety Culture” embraced by everyone within the organization. This position is classified as a Safety Sensitive Employee and is subject to drug and alcohol testing as prescribed by the Federal Transit Administration.
 
Job Description:
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels.
  • Ensure staff is properly trained and adheres to safety and security standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, client, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct, review, and document facility safety inspections, assisting in the correction of deficiencies.
  • Ensure all reporting and risk management tools are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Investigate vehicle accidents and employee injuries and prepare required reports.
  • Develop local accident and injury prevention plans and programs.
  • Create and implement local safety awareness programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain safety bulletin boards, safety postings, and the electronic FOCUS board with current and relevant safety information.
  • Schedule and present training programs.
  • Conduct monthly employee/driver safety meetings.
  • Ensure contract compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations. Maintain related records and reports while implementing approved recommendations.
  • Select, hire, and train qualified candidates for employment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Perform other duties as required.
 
Education, Licensing, and Certifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) plus two years of college or university studies is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in transit safety and training.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA standards, NIMS, and ADA requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of DOT, Federal Motor Carrier, Transit Security Administration, and Federal Transportation Administration rules and regulations.
  • Expertise in injury and collision prevention practices and techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and explain regulations effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with excellent presentation abilities.
 
Travel requirement: Travel outside the immediate area: less than 5%
Salary: Negotiable, based on experience.
