Description

The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) works cooperatively with all team members in planning and performing basic care. The Certified Nurse Assistant supports patient care delivery and is responsible for adhering to all standards of care and for promoting teamwork among coworkers.

Department Specific Competencies

  • Assists the RN with the following: care of patient in traction, application of restraints observation of, for examination and treatment of patients, application and monitoring of oxygen, ensuring bedrails are up on medicated and or confused patients, transporting of patients.

  • Assists nursing staff to: a) implement teaching strategies; b) establish teaching plans designed to educate the patient in caring for self after discharge; c) evaluate the outcome of teaching plans developed for individual patients.



  • Applies mobilization and immobilization devices according to physician order arm slings, corsets, finger splints, cervical collar, braces, prosthetics, shoulder immobilizer, clavicle brace, knee immobilizer or knee ranger, unitan sling, abduction pillow for hip or shoulder, CPM for knee or shoulder, hot ice machine, foot pumps and sequential stockings, miscellaneous orthotics.
