Laboratory 75000 - Laboratory Clinical Full-Time Days 8 Hour


Under administrative direction, plans, manages and coordinates the activities and personnel of the Laboratory; provides technical expertise to the Section Supervisors and Clinical Laboratory Scientists.

Provides Administrative and Managerial expertise and instruction to the Laboratory staff as required.
Recommends and/or approves salary increases, promotions, transfers, suspensions and dismissals.
Ensures selection, training, orientation and assignments of department staff; develops standards of performance and monitors and manages staff; evaluates performance and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions, promotions and disciplinary action; encourages professional development through in-service education; develops and maintains job description for all staff members; resolves staff grievances.
Prepares and submits the departmental budget and once approved, controls personnel and expenses accordingly.
Evaluates personnel requirements and maintains appropriate staffing levels.
Organizes and coordinates laboratory services, in conjunction with other departments, in order to provide effective and efficient patient care.
Evaluates departmental services and training programs on a regular basis to assure that those services and programs are in accordance with standards established by the Medical Center and the Medical Director and that they comply with local, state and federal standards that may be applicable.
Assists the Vice President of Ancillary Services in establishing long range goals and objectives for the department.
Maintains readiness for JCAHO, CDPH, FDA, AABB, and other agencies.
Participates in equipment evaluations and makes recommendations for purchase to the Vice President Ancillary Services.
Compiles and summarizes workload data and prepares reports.
Participates on various Medical Center Committees.
Keeps employee attendance and continuing education records.
Ensures age specific competencies for all ages served by the department.
Ensures competency of department staff for assigned job duties.
Develops department specific behaviors consistent with the values statement.
Ensures departmental participation in hospitals performance improvement activities.
Ensures departmental participation in facility performance improvement activities and interdepartmental projects as appropriate.
Participates in hospital performance improvement activities via task forces, BPI projects, and Lean projects.
Assists as needed during accreditation reviews.
Prepares and maintains department Policy/Procedure Manual in accordance with JCAHO, State Department of Health, and other governing agencies.

Manages the Safety Program in the department for patients and staff as well as hazardous materials management.
Directs, implements, maintains, provides leadership and promotes the organizations strategy for a Lean Organizational Improvement system
