Description

Under general supervision, prepares patients for and performs M.R.I. examinations.

Core Competencies

Screens and interviews patients about to undergo MRI examinations.
Screens visitors, other hospital employees and anyone entering the 5 Gauss line with any and all ferromagnetic materials, pacemakers, ID badges, tools, etc.
Enforces safety policies regarding MRI scanning, makes self aware of all administrative policies with regard to departmental procedures, protocols, care and proper cleaning of equipment.
Performs procedures as outlined in the Department Policy and Procedures manual.
Selects proper F.O.V. and matrix sizes, technical factors and computer program as so to obtain the best quality image.
Prepares, calculates and administers intravenous (MR) contrast when applicable.
Understands his/her role in maintaining medication security to authorized personnel only.
Administers oral contract to patients as needed.
Demonstrates knowledge of clinical norms for all age groups as applicable to job functions.
Keeps a daily record of helium and nitrogen levels in logbook and enters all variance or failure.
Implements imaging presentation state on PACS system for Radiologist.
Answers telephone inquiries, of a technical nature, from doctors of hospital personnel in other areas of the hospital.
Assists student technologist who may rotate through the MRI scanning area.
Initiates service call when necessary only.
Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (BPI projects, task forces, etc) when requested.
