Description

The Staff RN uses the nursing process to deliver nursing care to a given patient care population as it relates to the care setting. Nursing care is based on the interpretation and execution of the medical and nursing plan of treatment utilizing established procedures standards and protocols of individuals within the assigned work shift. The Staff RN provides nursing care to the population served in the unit.

Department Specific Competencies

  • Adjusts the patient bed appropriately for the procedure.

  • Regulates patient body temperature using warm air blanket or warm blankets.

  • Provides privacy for the patient.

  • Monitors and manages the patient who has recently undergone general or regional anesthesia.

  • Manages adjunctive airway devices effectively, including assisting with intubations. Suctions airway passages effectively and manages use of mechanical ventilation to ensure adequate gas exchange.

  • Removes artificial airway nasopharyngea Oropharyngeal LMAET Tube.

  • Collects and analyzes patient data to ensure airway patency and adequate gas exchange.

  • Assists patients to understand information related to a specific surgery procedure.

  • Monitors patients using the Aldrete Scoring system.

  • Arterial Line Management- Monitors patient with arterial line , Swan-ganz, and CVP.

  • Meets with patient and family regarding feedback and follows up on their issues; Implements planned service recovery strategies, if indicated, appropriately documenting the incident and informing appropriate departments

  • Monitors and reports to the Unit Lead RN any patient or family complaints, intervening before issues arise and implements service recovery strategies as needed.
