Description
This position is responsible for assigned patient care area with 24 hour accountability. The Manager, Hospice (Director) is responsible for ensuring effective delivery of evidenced-based practice of clinical patient care and compliance with administrative and clinical policies and procedures. |

- Conducts a minimum of ten staff meetings per year.
- Reviews and follows up on incident reports and reports trends to staff.
- Participates and facilitates/sponsor for unit based council when applicable.
- Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing services and healthcare delivery for assigned area and the integration of evidence based clinical services within their assigned unit.
- Develops and monitors annual goals for improving customer satisfaction, quality, and cost containment and reports trends to staff
- Clarifies organizational and unit goals for all employees
- Adheres to current organizational Performance Improvement priorities
- Selects and uses process, outcome, and structure audits appropriately.
- Uses quality control findings in determining needed areas of staff education or coaching.
- Assesses the unit organizational environment to identify and categorize errors that are occurring and proactively reworks the process that led to errors
- Participates in multidisciplinary meetings/rounds to discuss and resolve patient care issues as needed.
- Collaborates with the PI/Educator to ensures utilization of evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards that guide practice.
- Plans and provides for cost effective use of resources and participates in budget preparation for assigned unit.
- Manages the acquisition and utilization of clinical supplies and equipment.
- Manages staffing, including nursing staff, clerical support staff and unit support services staff.
- Uses the appraisal process to motivate employees and promote growth.
- Provides frequent informal feedback on work performance and uses coaching techniques that promote employee growth in work performance.
- Follows through with disciplinary actions and employee grievances.
- Facilitates prompt conflict resolution among employees.
- Provides opportunities for staff feedback and incorporates suggestions into operations improvement goals.
- Demonstrates knowledge of budget.
- Assumes accountability for quality and fiscal control of staffing.
- Ensures payroll is submitted bi-weekly in accordance with the deadlines set by Payroll Office
- Uses appropriate interview techniques to fill positions.
- Facilitates and supports recruitment and retention activities.

Three years management experience in a hospice or related health care organization with expert knowledge of Medicare Hospice regulations. |
