Description

This position provides front office support for the Endoscopy Center and staff and performs a variety of tasks including greeting and directing patients, scheduling and billing procedures, answering telephones, word processing and copying and distributing test results and reports.

Core Competencies

  • Demonstrates knowledge of general age specific norms for all age groups.

  • Registers patients and assures they are taken care of in a timely manner.

  • Completes patient’s registration process.

  • Receives and directs patients; notifies staff of patient’s arrival and/or escorts patient to appropriate area.

  • Answers telephone within 4 rings.

  • Receives and addresses in-coming telephone calls; records and routes messages as indicated.

  • Picks up and addresses voice-mail messages.

  • Schedules patients, after obtaining patients demographic and insurance information/authorizations into the scheduling system in a timely manner

  • Provides patients with accurate instructions regarding procedure and appointment

  • Maintains accurate procedure schedules for department.

  • Prepares patient charts; ensures that necessary forms and test results are available in chart prior to patient appointments.

  • Utilizes computer systems to schedule and process patients, obtain lab results and communicate with co-workers.

  • Utilizes word processing program and spread sheet applications for department/program correspondence documents and forms.

  • Utilizes Olympus computer network for patient demographics.

  • Copies and distributes transcribed reports.

  • Files patient records, lab results and charts.

  • Opens, sorts and distributes mail to appropriate personnel.

  • Sorts, files and distributes endoscopic photographs.

  • Orders and restocks office supplies.

  • Reviews charges for accuracy, addresses billing mistakes/ problems with supervisor.

  • Maintains office equipment and initiates maintenance and repairs as necessary.

  • Schedules special functions according to hospital guidelines.

  • Mails educational information notices for conferences and meetings in a timely manner.

  • Participates in planning, organizing and implementing conferences and symposiums.

  • Maintains safe/clean work environment according to hospital safety and security guidelines.

  • Assists with orientation and training of new employees and volunteers as assigned.
