Description
The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) works cooperatively with all team members in planning and performing basic care. The Certified Nurse Assistant supports patient care delivery and is responsible for adhering to all standards of care and for promoting teamwork among coworkers. |

Department Specific Competencies |
- Takes assignment as a patient “sitter” for at risk patients, making physical and behavioral observations and reporting changes to the RN, ensures that report is received and given at the beginning and end of each shift and anytime a change in condition occurs. Identifies patients using identity band to verify the name and date of birth Assists with moving patients following safe patient handling procedures Ensures patients privacy and dignity Follows hand hygiene policy/procedure during all patient encounters Introduces self to patient and family and provides information regarding purpose of the assignment Calls patient by preferred name and follows all standards of conduct Ensures a plan for relief to not leave patient unattended during breaks and lunch
- Assists in maintaining well functioning unit.
- Assists with orientation and training of new employees/volunteers, as assigned.
- Communicates all significant clinical findings to nurse.
- Demonstrates knowledge of general age specific norms for adults and geriatrics.
- Follows cleaning and high level disinfection of semi-critical devices, policy and procedures.
- Takes vital signs and other pertinent information as required by the department and documents in medical record.
- Implements the patient care plan by providing direct patient care for those patients assigned including but not limited to the following activities: gives baths, oral hygiene, skin care, backrubs, assists patients to and from bathroom, positions patients and changes position appropriately according to care plan instructions, ensures patients receive prescribed diet, assists with feedings as needed, places tray conveniently, collects specimens as instructed using appropriate technique, takes vital signs and notifies RN of any change or abnormal finding, assists/performs treatments as directed by RN/LVN including: foley care, application of binders, FSBS, sitz baths, and post mortem care, others as directed.
