Description

  • Utilizes Hospital Information System (HIS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS.
  • Answers telephone inquiries of a technical nature from physicians or hospital personnel in other area of the hospital while maintaining good phone etiquette
  • Maintains a safe working environment: Keeps work area clean and free of hazards. Alerts appropriate resource of faulty or broken equipment. Observes all safety guidelines. Recognizes and reports unsafe acts
  • Maintains appropriate stock of supplies for the department.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice including maintaining current licensure and completing educational requirements.
  • Understands his/her role in maintaining medication security to authorized personnel only.
  • Adheres to infection control guidelines: uses good handwashing technique, adheres to isolation policy, cleaning equipment between patients.
  • Assists student technologists who may rotate through the department.
  • Transports and moves patients using appropriate body mechanics and safety precautions. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of safe patient handling devices.
  • Follows Universal Protocol by using two patient identifiers prior to working with patient.
  • Provides patient and family with information/instructions regarding procedure, evaluating barriers to understanding.
  • Evaluates patient’s medical history and clinical data.
  • Completes the necessary paperwork and notes discrepancies according to departmental procedure.
  • Determines need for translation services or communication aides and arranges for the appropriate resources to meet these needs.

Department Specific Competencies

  • Performs all clinical and diagnostic procedures for geriatric, adult, adolescent and pediatric patients according to department policy and procedure.
  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures as outlined in the Department Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Performs portable procedures in high stress environments includes Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery, Labor Room, Intensive Care Units, Surgery Suite and Emergency Room.
  • Performs acquisition and analysis of extensive statistical data complied in non-invasive vascular procedures. Note: Vascular Laboratory incorporated within the Ultrasound Department.
  • Assists physicians utilizing ultrasound in the performance of special procedures involving aspirations, biopsies and for guidance of needle placement procedures.
  • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures; regularly practices aseptic techniques and strictly obeys isolation and infection control procedures; prevents cross contamination during procedures.
  • Follows cleaning and high level disinfection of semi-critical devices, policy and procedures.
  • Assists and supports a new or transferred employee through a planned orientation.
  • Utilizes LEAN methodology to improve work flow processes for increased quality of patient care and improved outcomes.
  • Assumes On-Call responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.
