Description

This position provides leadership and direction across the organization for the care and handling of sterile instrumentation to maintain compliance with regulatory standards, is responsible for the fiscal and operational budgets for instrument inventory management, vendor loaner and consignment set management and instrument repairs. This position functions as the SPM information system administrator and is responsible for quality metric data analysis and reporting.

Department Specific Competencies

  • Functions as the SPM information system administrator.

  • Maintains data integrity and ensures all instruments and instrument trays with appropriate quantities and, instrument tray inventory sheets are accurately entered into SPM and updated as needed.

  • Works collaboratively with the Surgery Informatics nurse, materials and operating room staff to ensure instrumentation in the Surginet database is accurate and has appropriate quantity.

  • Provides leadership and direction to the SPD leads and staff to forecast instrumentation needs for the daily surgical and procedural schedules.

  • Provides in the moment support as well as to observe processes to ensure compliance with care and handling of instrument policies and procedures through daily rounding in surgical and procedural areas.

  • Utilizes SPM to collect data, develop reports and analyze results relative to identified quality metrics, forecasting instrument needs and providing productivity data for the Sterile Processing Manager.

  • Prepares budgetary forecasts for annual operating and capital budgets relative to instrumentation needs in conjunction with the Perioperative Business Manager and Sterile Processing Manager

  • Prepares budgetary quotes to obtain or replace instrument inventory in conjunction with the Perioperative Business Manager

  • Acts as a direct liaison between managers, physicians, OR service line leads, OR staff and sterile processing staff to vendor and professional representatives of surgical supply companies.

  • Works directly with physicians, materials, and service line leads to coordinate instrumentation requests and maintain contract compliance.

  • Prepares monthly immediate use sterilization statistics and uses this analysis to identify instrument inventory expansion needs.

  • Coordinates with Bio-Med and Engineering Department to maintain all new and current equipment.

  • Ensures department compliance with all regulatory standards specific to the care, handling and storage of sterile instruments in conjunction with the Sterile Processing Manager.

  • Manages, tracks and coordinates all loaner instrumentation to ensure timely arrival and processing for scheduled procedures.

  • Develops a vendor compliance report and provides results at determined intervals to the Sterile Processing Manager, Materials Manager and Perioperative Clinical Director.

  • Supports Perioperative Educator in coordinating required education for new and existing instrumentation.


Education

Additional Information
Graduate from a Sterile Processing Program or Surgical Technology Program or Military training as a Surgical Tech with a minimum of two years acute care experience as an SPD or Surgical Tech.

Compensation Range:
