Description

The Minimum Data Set (MDS) Assessment Coordinator is responsible for conducting and coordinating the development and completion of the Resident Assessment Instrument as defined by HCFA. This position is responsible to ensure that all requirements for comprehensive assessments are completed. The MDS Coordinator participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The MDS Coordinator prepares the written MDS for inputting to electronic system for submission to the State and Federal government.

Core Competencies

  • Educates staff to requirement of MDS 3.0 and implications for reimbursement when documentation is not congruent.

  • Evaluates and assists in selection of new software for MDS systems.

  • Prints and posts signed electronically produced MDS to the hard copy of the chart.

  • Directs collection of data for Quality Management and process improvement of MDS systems.

  • Identifies all new admissions to ensure patient data is entered into MDS system and schedule for assessments and transmission of data is established.

  • Works in collaboration with unit supervisor to educate and provides inservices for staff development related to MDS and Resident Assessment Instrument.

  • Maintains knowledge of basic computer program applications, Microsoft Office and MDS software.

  • Makes recommendations to software vendor for enhancements to program. Evaluates and assists in selection of new software for MDS systems.

  • Works in collaboration with unit supervisor to educate and provide inservices for staff development related to MDS and Resident Assessment Instrument.

Additional Information
• One year experience in skilled or home health care/hospice setting
;• Completion of RAI course and demonstration of working knowledge of the MDS/RAI process
;• Knowledge of BBA1997, OBRA1987 and Title 22 State of California regulations
;• Competent in use of computer software applications applicable to job, e.g. Microsoft NT, Microsoft Office, MDS systems
;• Knowledgeable in ICD-10 coding

License / Certification Requirements

Registered Nurse License
BCLS or ACLS Certification

Compensation Range
$45.74 - $75.33 / Hour
