Under the direction of the Director Specialty Medical Offices, provides leadership to and operations of selected off site, specialty outpatient Cardiology medical offices ("Medical Offices") under the license of Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Under the Direction of the Director Lundquist Lurie Cardiovascular Institute, provides the development of Ambulatory Cardiac Services and Service Line Integration. Maintains overall responsibility for the operations and financial performance of the licensed Medical Offices. Manages the physician relationships and contracts associated with the physician professional services provided in these Medical Offices. 

Core Competencies

  • Recruits and manages the Medical Office Managers and other staff who work in selected off-site specialty medical offices under the direction of this position.

  • Meets with senior administration and physicians regularly to report on clinic performance, and make recommendations for improvements
  • Negotiates the professional services agreements with physicians who provide services at these sites and monitors their performance and compliance

  • Ensures management and professional services contractual terms are followed.

  • Meets regularly with physicians to report their performance and address operational issues impacting the operations of the Medical Offices.

  • Manages the payments to physicians who provide professional services to these sites and ensures that the contractual terms are followed, and the results are communicated to physician leaders.

  • Interfaces with THA and TMMC billing staff on all aspects of the billing for professional and technical services for Medical Office services. Ensures that appropriate charges are captured and reviewed and reports on collection experience.

  • Implements and manages systems and processes which support an efficient operation of Medical Offices including patient registration, appointment scheduling, telephone support, and patient throughput

  • Implements and monitors patient experience/satisfaction results and makes changes as indicated which improve the overall patient experience..

  • Implements and complies with TMMC human resource policies and procedures, Joint Commission standards, and California state regulations governing operations of licensed Medical Office.

  • Interacts with TMMC staff with responsibility for performance improvement, patient safety, medical records, compliance and other departments of the medical center and ensure that the licensed Medical Offices are operating in a manner consistent with Medical Center policies and procedures and the Medical Offices are appropriately integrated into TMMC operations.

  • Researches and promotes the best practices in the management of Medical Office operations; provides financial leadership to managers and physician leaders to help them understand and achieve budgetary goals. Develops annual budgets and reports causes of variance.

  • Develops managers at each Medical Office who possess the skills to manage the daily operations, creating an environment of high expectations for customer services, efficient operations and responsiveness to physician expectations.

  • Ensures the development of clinical practice and administrative policy and procedures which govern the operation.

  • Follows Medical Center and department safety procedures, keeping supervisor informed of unusual situations, security and safety or health hazards.

  • Leads change by promoting and using lean methodologies as a framework for the application of safety and high reliability science and the continuous improvement model.

  • Demonstrates expertise in the facilitation of effective meetings; keeping focused, moving cautiously yet expeditiously, and goal-oriented.

Additional Information

Master’s Degree in Business, Health Administration, Public Health or a related field, or related field. Ten years’ experience at in ambulatory medical practice or health system is preferred

Compensation Range
$136,000 - $236,000 / Annually
