Position at Tokio Marine HCC



TMHCC is running a significant programme of change under the New Policy Administration System (NPAS) Programme to transform policy administration capability to be fit for purpose to support our growing and diverse business


Job Purpose:

As part of the NPAS programme, the future policy administration architecture for TMHCC International has been defined and agreed with key business stakeholders and Enterprise Architecture. The programme has now moved into a new phase – with projects/workstreams now producing solution designs before moving into delivery.

There is a need for an NPAS Architecture team to ensure, through robust oversight and assurance activities, that designs produced by projects remain consistent with the principles and overall architecture previously agreed. It is equally critical that the programme ensures that its design deliverables meet the standards of and are approved by Enterprise Architecture.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure elements of the NPAS Architecture brought to an agreed resolution

a)      Key Design Decisions at programme level

  • Custodian of the NPAS Architecture and design principles by working across projects to ensure designs fit as a cohesive whole

a)      Updated versions of overall architecture as required

b)      Defined or Updated versions of Transition State architectures

  • Approve designs from the individual projects ensuring alignment to and ultimate approval from Enterprise Architecture

a)      Support Solution Architects and provide projects with clear guidance on the design– e.g. Solution Design Document - and its governance

b)      Chair and administer design forums/workshops within the programme (e.g. Design Review Group (DRG)) to provide a level of control and assurance whilst helping to shape the projects’ design artefacts iteratively

c)       Surface major design decisions and their implications and then subsequently work with and across the projects to help resolve them

d)      Set clear Design Phase Gates with projects – aligned to NPAS and TMHCC project governance gates

  • Act as central liaison between NPAS Programme & Enterprise Architecture function

a)      Agree and manage a list of risks, issues and or decisions to be authorised by Enterprise Architecture


Skills and Experience Specification:

The appointed Lead Architect will be an experienced architect with demonstrable experience in large programmes.

  • Must have specialty insurance background with a strong understanding of the full policy lifecycle
  • Hands on experience taking the lead and delivering a design oversight/assurance role on a large programme.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of core insurance business systems including underwriting, claims, finance, BI and reporting
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and challenge other architects assigned to projects within the programme
