This position is based in our Wakefield, MA headquarters location. In this role as part of a dynamic team, you will work across multiple departments beyond accounting, including underwriting, IT, compliance, and claims.

Performance Objectives:

 

Within the first 30 days, become familiar with all the Specialty Group lines of business that fall under our direct management oversight (what we do), software programs we use (PeopleSoft, RSC, AS400), and the daily operations of the Company as they relate to insurance and reinsurance accounting and reporting.

 

Within the first 60 days, become adept at using our accounting and reinsurance accounting systems under the supervision of the Specialty Group Reinsurance Accounting Manager. Learn to facilitate and report reinsurance settlements for both premiums and claims. Respond to inquiries from reinsurers/brokers concerning settlements, claims, and collections and coordinate responses from the various departments. Understand how to review balance sheet accounts in preparation for month-end close.

 

Within the first 90 days, assist in the general ledger month-end close, including closing lines of business in the reinsurance system. Set up reinsurance contracts in the reinsurance system. Analyze accounting information to prepare and post entries to general ledger accounts and to document business transactions as it relates to reinsurance activities.

 

Ongoing, prepare general ledger account reconciliations related to reinsurance and regular day to day activity. Interact with internal and external auditors, as necessary for all matters. Proactively detect, research, and resolve balance sheet reconciliation items. Prepare various ad hoc reports using advanced Excel skills.

 

Your Skills and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience
  • Work in an office environment is required
  • Experience in an accounting or finance internship, preferred
  • PeopleSoft and RSC experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
