About the Opportunity

Architecture for us is not purely about technology, it is central to the delivery of the HCC business agenda. Our delivery capabilities within the architecture domain, including Business, Enterprise, Solutions, and Data architecture, are critical to assuring delivery certainty of our ambitious business plans over the coming years. 

  

You’ll be part of a dynamic Solution Architecture team, architecting end to end solutions for multiple lines of business including London Market, Specialty, and Surety. You’ll be leading the development of solution roadmaps to support enterprise and business strategy, and you will lead on the delivery of solution design work including application, data, and technology solutions through your own work. 

  

In order to be successful you’ll need to draw on your experience of architecting complex solution designs balancing the needs of the business and alignment to enterprise architecture guiderails and IT strategy. You’ll need to be adept at influencing business and IT stakeholders in defending your solutions. 

  

You will report to our Head of Solution Architecture and work closely with our delivery teams as well as with our business stakeholders, IT community and suppliers. You will also collaborate with teams across the business. This is an exciting role with the ability to make a real difference in delivering business outcomes and further developing the services of our architecture practice. 

  

  

  

  

  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the delivery of solution architecture work across a number of lines of business ensuring the designs are in line with business outcomes. This includes owning and developing solution roadmaps for our business lines that lay the tracks for our product model development teams.
  • Architect end to end technology solutions that meet our business needs and making sure the designs are compliant with relevant architecture standards, guide rails and governance processes
  • Responsible for solution governance for the product model teams assigned to, chairing a Design Review Group governance forum, and attending and contributing to enterprise forums
  • Stand in for the Head of Solution Architecture in key meetings and forums when required
  • Recognise and pull out re-usable solution building blocks and patterns for consideration by the enterprise architecture team, helping to package these up for future use on the programme and in the wider enterprise
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the solution architecture service, providing thought leadership and leading initiatives in support of enhancing our architecture services to the business
  • Drive efficiency and agility in solution design work, championing re-use of solution building blocks and patterns
  • Provide advice, assistance and leadership regarding the continuous improvement solution design quality. This includes peer reviews of solution architecture work completed by others in the team

  

Key Skills and Experience 

  • A deep understanding of technology applications and architecture stacks, within an insurance environment. London Market and speciality insurance experience desirable.
  • Strong, solutions-oriented architect with significant experience of solving complex technology problems in a complex environment
  • The ability to influence business and technical stakeholders, whilst managing their expectations and understanding their points of view
  • Strong communication skills – ability to translate complex technical solutions into easy to understand concepts for business or non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience of making or influencing decisions against a set of challenging and often overlapping priorities from different business stakeholders
  • Demonstrable prioritisation skills and methods for managing own workload. Ability to work independently, exercising good initiative and judgement
  • Ability to evolve with a rapidly changing environment to anticipate changes in technology
  • Able to judge the need for pragmatism over Architecture “purity”
  • Experience in achieving design compliance through both governance, influence and federated responsibility
  • Work collaboratively with Architecture colleagues in different disciplines (such as Enterprise, Data, Infrastructure, etc) to achieve the desired outcomes as “one team”
  • Understanding of project management and software delivery lifecycles
  • Understanding of the importance of data and how it is utilised for modern business

  

Desirable Skills and Experience 

  • Practical experience of working within an agile development and deployment environment
  • Experience of Architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman) or other structured approaches to accelerate architectural value
  • Experience of Architecture tools for re-use or model-based design could be useful for delivering future demand
  • Experience in collaborating on RFQ and RFP processes
  • Understanding of Domain Driven Design (DDD), integration patterns, microservices, containerisation, and other key modern technology techniques and patterns
