Job Title: Credit Risk Underwriting Manager 

Reporting to: Head of Credit Risk 

Location: Rearsby, Leicester/ Fitzwilliam House, London 

Position Type: Permanent, 35 hours per week 

Hybrid: 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home

Job Purpose: 

  • Management & supervision of the Risk team.
  • Coaching, development, training and appraisal of the Risk team.
  • Management of underwriting credit limit decisions made by the Risk team across all underwriting sectors with a view to ensuring consistent underwriting decisions.
  • Ensure a collaborative, cohesive and equitable team environment is maintained.
  • Maintaining and developing Broker relationships to enhance the reputation of TMHCC.
  • Act as a reference point for both Customer Service and New Business teams.
  • Ensure all Risk underwriting service commitments are achieved including meetings / turnaround times / notify insured tasks / monitoring, etc. as appropriate.
  • Contribute to Management meetings, Watchlist meetings and Credit Committee meetings as required.
  • Deputise for the Head of Credit Risk as and when needed.

  

Key Responsibilities: 

  

  • Management, supervision, coaching, appraisal & development of the Risk team.
  • Underwriting credit limit requests across all underwriting sectors and acting as a primary point of referral for the Risk team.
  • Assume a lead role in ongoing buyer monitoring to ensure continued profitability within the portfolio.
  • Managing the risk communication within the portfolio, ensuring sector knowledge is imparted and underwriting strategies are implemented.
  • Providing new business limit indications to the Sales team. Managing the team to ensure quick turnaround times are achieved.
  • Attending new business prospect meetings with the Sales team when required to assist growth targets.
  • Act as a reference point for the Commercial U/W team to address queries and improve communication and processes.
  • Underwrite credit limits within authority and assist with the preparation of reports required to satisfy higher approval levels.
  • Direct contact with both Brokers and policy holders where required to provide reasons for Risk underwriting decisions.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of both the macro-economic environment and all relevant industry sectors.
  • Assist with the Identification of improvements in systems development, liaise and develop specifications for Information Technology department.
  • Assist with the coordination of UAT testing for all new underwriting system developments.
  • Re-insurance – review exposure levels to ensure reinsurance authorization obtained where applicable.

  

  

Skills and Experience Specification: 

  • Degree level education.
  • 5 years + credit insurance risk underwriting experience.
  • Advanced financial information analytical skills.
  • Awareness of economic, sector and market conditions.
  • Awareness of Policy terms & conditions across all relevant Policy wordings.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of the insurance regulatory environment.
  • Awareness of Country & Political risk landscape.
  • Customer service skills.
