Xperi’s Design & Research team is looking for an experienced User Researcher.
Here is what you'll get to do:
· Join a team committed to transforming the driving experience and passionate about revolutionizing the connected car industry.
· You will have the unique opportunity to directly shape the future of HMI design by managing and operating the HMI User Research Lab in our San Jose office.
· Leverage your experience leading user research programs with a specific focus in automotive HMI.
· Partner with other researchers and cross-functional teams (Design, Product, Engineering, Marketing, etc.) to conduct qualitative and quantitative research including usability tests, interviews, heuristic evaluations, focus groups, experiments, and surveys, as well as analyzing and presenting usage data and other user data.
· Present findings and make concrete recommendations to clients and internal teams both verbally and in written form.
Here is what you'll need to be successful:
· This is a senior research role that requires at least 5 years as a User Research lead conducting end-to-end research studies. You have first-hand experience in designing research, recruitment, moderation, analysis, deliverables, and reporting.
· This role is primarily focused on our portfolio of automotive products and solutions, although you will support other markets as well (e.g., mobile, web, TV, etc.). You have at least three years of experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative HMI (Connected Car & Automotive) in-vehicle user research; test methods, data collection, synthesis, and deliverables.
· You have experience with standard HMI components including a driving simulator, HMI demonstrator, eye tracker and other in-cabin components.
· You have a strong understanding with direct experience of in-vehicle display and HMI technologies including automotive interface standards and guidelines (e.g., NHTSA, DOT, SAE, ISO, etc.)
· You are current with the latest trends in automotive design as well as consumer electronics, product, and related fields.
· We will request your portfolio of HMI work experience and deliverables that illustrates how your research informed decision-making, showcases deliverables, and demonstrates your ability to extract actionable insights from qualitative and quantitative data.
· At least three years of experience working in a user research lab setting and first-hand experience operating and maintaining all lab equipment (e.g., recording devices, data collection, pan-tilt-zoom cameras, etc.). This is a role that requires equal parts technical know-how and demonstrated experience in contemporary user research techniques to ensure our methodology is credible to both internal and external stakeholders and partners.
· This role is hybrid with at least three days a week in our San Jose, California office required.
· Managing and coordinating lab use and test schedule.
· Capable and comfortable with streaming live sessions to remote team members.
· Proactively problem solve test equipment, diagnose issues and resolve them.
· Demonstrated experience coordinating and working with outside vendors and contracts.
· Proven track record of translating user insights into strategic recommendations to help product partners make informed decisions. You have first-hand experience in driving change through research and user advocacy. You explore new methods and seek opportunities to continuously improve research methods to ensure Xperi solutions deliver extraordinary experiences.
· You are an exceptional communicator with mastery in both verbal and written communication methods. You have mature listening skills and are very comfortable giving and receiving feedback. You seek first to understand, then be understood.
· You consistently demonstrate excellent time management skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. You can prioritize, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, manage expectations, and meet deadlines.
· You are responsible for your research deliverables and interactions with others. You are collaborative, proactive, and lean into productive conflict. You easily balance being detail-oriented while maintaining focus on the big picture.
· A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, UserTesting, Jira, and Confluence.
Here is what we consider nice to have:
· Master’s degree in Design or Behavioral Sciences (e.g., HCI, Human Factors, Psychology, Communications, etc.).
· Understanding statistical techniques and able to draw insights from large data sets.
 
The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is $138,039 - $175,000 plus bonus and benefits, and can vary if outside of this location. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, competencies, experience, market demands, internal parity, and relevant education or training.
