Job Overview 
The Meterman provides reliable testing, calibration, installation and maintenance of meters and metering equipment. Actively participate in revenue protection and progressively train for greater responsibility.
 
Job Description
Installation and Testing
  • Tests all meters, instruments, transformers, and metering equipment.
  • Tests all meters by ANSI standards.
  • Ensures all meters are properly sealed after testing.
  • Installs wiring for CT and PT metering in accordance to proper procedures.
  • Installs and maintains single-phase and three-phase metering.
  • Performs single-phase and three-phase meter change outs.
  • Accurately assembles primary metering equipment.
Programming
  • Accurately programs all meters.
  • Updates AMI system when necessary changes are needed.
  • Accurately wires sockets for single-phase and three-phase meters.
Maintenance and Calibration
  • Maintains and calibrates all meters, instruments, transformers, and metering equipment.
  • Thoroughly cleans and repairs meters as needed.
  • Installs and maintains AMI modules in all electric meters.
  • Installs and repairs instrument metering equipment.
Reporting
  • Accurately documents information on all tested and repaired meters.
  • Learns to update and look up meter-related information on the AMI system.
  • Monitors AMI system to aid in identifying potential issues.
Other Duties
  • Assists in performing delinquent disconnects weekly.
  • Assists with power theft cases as needed.
  • Maintains all tools and equipment needed to perform job.
  • Tags equipment, poles, and transformers.
 
 
Qualifications and Requirements 
  • 1-10 years of metering experience.
  • Ability to learn different types of electrical meters and their purpose.
  • Ability to reason analytically and apply theoretical concepts.
  • Meter Technician Apprenticeship completion preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of electricity is required.
  • Ability to listen to members and co-workers.
  • Strong customer service skills preferred.
  • Must adapt to changing conditions and equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to operate an automobile.
  • Moderate to advanced computer knowledge required.
  • Ability to use office equipment (copier, fax, phone).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English above average level.
