Preconstruction Estimator - Multifamily Construction

Thompson Thrift Construction is seeking to hire a Full-Time Preconstruction Estimator for our office in Indianapolis, IN.  This position will prepare cost estimates/budgets for construction projects and collaborate with the Preconstruction team for both Multifamily and Commercial projects or services to aid management in bidding on or determining price of product or service.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with clients vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates/budgets and resolve issues.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials and labor estimates/budgets.
  • Prepare, analyze, and recommend vendors or subcontractors for project selection.
  • Confer with Engineers, Architects, Owners, Contractors and Subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates/budgets used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Assess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Visit site and record information about access, drainage, topography, and availability of services such as water and electricity.
  • Visit with local authorities for each estimated project to determine local rules and regulations, ensuring the estimate/budget is as complete and accurate as possible.
  • Provide necessary training and direction to assist staff in achieving position advancement.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Construction Management or related field preferred
  • Four plus years of experience preferred

Performing this job will sometimes require the employee to walk work sites that do not have infrastructure, this includes walking on uneven surfaces, through mud, through ruts, etc. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The noise in the construction work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is required to work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
