Exciting Summer Internship Opportunity: Real Estate Development

Location: Indianapolis, IN
Team: Southeast Region

 

Are you ready to dive into the world of real estate development? Thompson Thrift is seeking an enthusiastic Real Estate Development Intern for Summer 2026 to join our corporate office in Indianapolis. This is an amazing chance to gain hands-on experience in Class A luxury multifamily residential projects.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Coordination Support: Assist the Development Manager with coordinating consultants and project schedules.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Help review codes and fees to ensure compliance.
  • Site Management: Contribute to site planning and oversee site development tasks including utilities, permitting, environmental considerations, and surveys.
  • Investment Readiness: Aid in preparing materials for internal investment meetings.
  • Zoning and Permitting: Support rezoning efforts and permit acquisition.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with design and construction teams throughout project phases.
  • Financial Facilitation: Assist in coordinating with banks and equity partners during deal closings.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain detailed project summaries for tracking.
  • Underwriting Assistance: Support the Land Acquisition team with project underwriting.
  • Local Engagement: Travel to project sites to liaise with local officials and consultants.

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Education: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction, or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a similar role is a plus.
  • Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic team environment.

 

About the Program: 

Our full-time, 12-week internship program runs from May to August and is designed to offer you hands-on experience, meaningful connections, and significant growth opportunities:

  • Executive Engagement:
    • Meet and Greet with our CEOs and Owners, John Thompson & Paul Thrift.
    • Intentional exposure to Executives, Business Unit Leaders, and Senior Leadership.
  • Professional Development:
    • Peer Panel Discussions with recent college graduates to gain insights on transitioning to full-time roles.
    • Networking Opportunities with former interns who have successfully transitioned into full-time positions.
    • Mock Presentations to enhance your public speaking and presentation skills.
    • Final Presentation opportunity to showcase your work to fellow interns, executives, teams, and owners.
  • Hands-On Experience:
    • Site Visit to a multifamily residential property to see projects in action.
    • Participation in the TT Intern Serve event, collaborating with a local partner to positively impact our community.
    • Cross-departmental meetings to understand the various facets of Thompson Thrift’s operations.
