Overview:
Thompson Pipe Group is looking for a Senior Project Manager who will be responsible for the end-to-end technical and project execution of Mage projects; from design and planning through fabrication, delivery, and closeout.

This role combines engineering expertise with project management accountability to ensure projects are executed efficiently, on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and contractual requirements.

The Sr. Project Manager acts as both the technical authority and main customer interface for mega projects, coordinating internal teams and managing the integration of engineering, production, quality, and scheduling activities.

Key Responsibilities
1.       Customer & Contract Management
  • Act as the main point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and interpret contracts, specifications, and change orders, ensuring technical and commercial alignment.
  • Lead commercial discussions (billing, delivery schedules, change requests) in collaboration with Sales and Finance.
  • Represent the company professionally and manage customer expectations effectively.
2.       Technical Design & Execution
  • Translate customer requirements into accurate, compliant design solutions.
  • Develop or oversee detailed project designs using AutoCAD and associated programs to meet performance, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Efficient design of pipe, fittings, reinforcement, and thrust restraint for water transmission projects.
  • Ensure design deliverables are completed on schedule and approved by customers or relevant authorities.
  • Maintain accuracy, version control, and proper documentation of all design outputs.
3.       Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Coordinate across Production, Quality, and Scheduling to ensure project alignment.
  • Secure timely approvals of submittals and drawings to avoid downstream delays.
  • Communicate design updates, production requirements, and changes clearly to all stakeholders.
  • Lead regular internal coordination meetings to track progress and resolve interface issues.
4.       Project Planning, Monitoring & Reporting
  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the project schedule (in coordination with the Scheduling team).
  • Monitor fabrication, inspection, and delivery milestones; proactively flag risks and delays.
  • Provide weekly progress updates to management and customers, highlighting achievements, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Use project dashboards or reports to ensure visibility across teams.
5.       Financial & Commercial Oversight
  • Ensure that invoicing aligns with project progress and contractual milestones.
  • Manage scope changes or variation orders in coordination with operations teams.
6.       Problem Solving & Issue Resolution
  • Identify, assess, and resolve issues that cross functional boundaries (e.g., design conflicts, material delays, quality deviations).
  • Lead root-cause analysis for recurring technical or process issues.
  • Escalate critical risks promptly to management with recommended mitigation actions.
7.       Production Support & Handoff
  • Ensure all released designs are complete, accurate, and ready for production execution.
  • Work closely with operations to clarify technical details and ensure smooth production flow.
  • Incorporate field or production feedback into future designs to drive continuous improvement.
8.       Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing
  • Identify opportunities to streamline design-to-production processes.
  • Contribute to the development of standard templates, best practices, and design libraries.
  • Mentor Junior Project Engineer in technical and project delivery skills.

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
  • 8-10 years of combined experience in engineering design and project management within manufacturing, industrial, or construction environments.
  • Experience to design and manage large scope projects (>$10M); pressure pipe, water management experience preferred
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional technical projects with direct customer interaction.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and standard project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of contract administration, project controls, and cost tracking.
  • Preference for candidates seeking licensure.
