Duties:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Patient Care Services, the Registered Nurse in the Youth Program:
- As a key member of the Youth team, will use best-practice and innovative approaches to provide client-oriented, skilled, evidence-based nursing care to youth with early onset mental illness, within a multidisciplinary team.
- Independently complete mental status assessments of Youth
- Provide nursing intervention based on assessment, including crisis intervention and management, administering of medications within current evidence based practice standards, group and individual therapies, and evaluate interventions.
- Understand and practice patient centered care as it applies in the Youth Program.
- Recognize patient readiness to learn and provide individualized and group patient and family teaching.
- Use current physical assessment skills to monitor at-risk clients.
- Complete and maintain all necessary documentation as per hospital and professional standards.
- Monitor and evaluate client progress and revise treatment/rehabilitation plans as indicated.
- Ensure continuity of client care is maintained through exchange of information and communication with the Youth, family members and other services providers involved with the client.
- Complete all required non-clinical administrative documentation (i.e.: quality improvement, forms, etc.).
- Maintain work load measurement and data collection as required and input into the workload measurement system on a regular basis.
- Keep up-to-date regarding professional standards by reviewing current literature, attending workshops/seminars, networking with colleagues, and participate in the teaching and supervision of students.
- Provide education and health promotion
- Demonstrate an understanding of the broader health care setting by using appropriate health care and community resources.
- Respond to and manage rapidly changing situations with patients.
- Demonstrate use of theory and research to guide nursing practice.
- Participate as required in program evaluation and research.
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Anti- Racism, Discrimination and Harassment-Free Workplace Policy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- BScN preferred.
- CPMHN (c) is an asset.
- Minimum of three years psychiatric/mental health nursing experience preferred.
- Evidence of ongoing recent educational activities.
- Evidence of client directed practice of service delivery.
- Group leadership skills and experience an asset.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
- Knowledge of and ability to work with complex and treatment resistant youth and their families
- Clear understanding of MHA, and relevant legislation.
- CPR certification within the last 12 months, WHMIS update in preceding 12 months.
- Completion of Suicide Prevention Training and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate research and innovation into practice.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression/comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. French level A- is mandatory in oral expression/comprehension.
Salary Range: | 39.07 to 56.00 per hour |
