The Rehabilitation Assistant supports the supervising Occupational Therapist in the implementation of therapist approved services.
Duties:
- Practices limited occupational or physiotherapy directed tasks for individuals or groups in specific skill development, such as social interaction, sensory motor, basic tasks, grooming and hygiene, and independent daily living skills
- Implement treatment plans as outlined by the supervising Occupational Therapist, in accordance with the standards and guidelines of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- Completes workload measurement;
- Observe and report to primary therapist on the performance of patients in activities assigned.
- Ensure that safety and security are maintained in areas assigned to him/her.
- Monitors an individual's activities to ensure they are performed correctly;
- Prepares materials and assembles equipment used during treatment;
- Performs clerical tasks, such as scheduling appointments, answering the telephone and restocking or ordering depleted supplies;
- Fills out insurance forms or other paperwork under the direction of the registered clinician;
- Provides and instructs clients and staff in the use of adaptive devices and compensation techniques under the supervision of the OT/PT;
- Maintains the inventory of therapy supplies and assists the OT’s in the provision of supplies and equipment, monitors equipment for need for cleaning and repairs;
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the ROHCG;

- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a recognized, accredited OTA Certificate or Diploma program from an approved Community College or equivalent in education and experience
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to function collaboratively as an integral member of the healthcare team and express respect and sensitivity towards patient population.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, problem solve and work independently once work has been assigned.
- Demonstrated clinical reasoning and professional judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate a clear understanding of the OTA role and the OT services to client/family/staff as required.
- Adequate computer skills for documentation.
- Previous hospital experience is an asset.
- Experience in mental health is an asset.
- English level A- in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing is mandatory. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Salary Range: | $34.84 to $39.50 per hour |
