Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Manager, Labour & Employee Relations is responsible for all labour and employee relations functions that support The Royal’s People & Culture priorities and emerging strategic plan. The Manager is accountable for leading a team of dynamic LR/HR professionals and fostering positive relations between all levels of Royal leadership, our union partners and our employees. As The Royal evolves its strategy the Manager will work with People & Culture Leaders and stakeholders to explore and implement a HR/LR Business Partner service delivery model.
The Manager collaborates with key stakeholders to build meaningful collective bargaining strategies, and work through complex dispute resolution matters, while supporting the organization and our partners with building a positive workplace. The Manager acts as a partner to our leadership team to support and identify root causes of issues, designing actionable people plans, and executing solutions based on best practices.
The Manager will use their Labour/Employee Relations leadership skills to contribute to the development and execution of The Royal’s strategic Labour and Employee Relations priorities, overseeing effective labour and employee relations, coaching and guiding team members and maintaining healthy labour/employee-management relationships across the organization in addition to using their mediation experience to resolve disputes and support the labour negotiations process. The Manager is also accountable for building a positive work environment by supporting workplace assessments and ensuring workplace investigations related to conflict, harassment, bullying and discrimination are handled efficiency and effectively.

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, Human Resources or other related discipline.
- Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) Designation (or in the process of) preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of labour relations experience in a fast-paced Human Resources environment, including work in a multi-union organization. Experience in healthcare or health-related settings is a plus.
- Progressive experience providing advice and support on Labour & Employee Relations and Human Resources (HR) matters, including grievances, arbitration, discipline, performance, conflict resolution, workplace investigations and attendance management.
- Strong management and administrative skills to design and implement HR and labour-employee relations programs and procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and employment-related legislation, including the Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards Act, Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act, and Public Service Labour Relations Transition Act.
- Strong knowledge of legal principles in Labour and Employee Relations, covering collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, discipline, performance management, and attendance management. Essential experience as a spokesperson in contract negotiations, mediation, and arbitration.
- Strong knowledge of Labour and Employee Relations and HR functions to effectively supervise, evaluate, advise, and guide staff.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, adept at handling difficult situations with professionalism while strategically identifying solutions and their impacts across the Hospital.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) level A- is considered an asset.
Salary Range: | $57.53 to $68.67 per hour |
